have you run into any problems with drinking and having type 1? i've heard alchohol can lower blood sugar and it can be dangerous but is it true?

yeah, i’ve been told that as well. however, i haven’t really had issues with it since i always make sure to eat beforehand/during and/or after.

i’ll be honest: i drink a lot, and if anything my blood sugars edge more toward the high range. while its not ideal, and while i know it does sound bad, i’d much prefer to be a little bit more high with my sugars when i drink just in case my sugars drop unexpectedly.

another thing that helps is the Dexcom, a continuous blood glucose monitor that checks my blood sugars every 5 minutes, and documents the trends. its great when i don’t have the time to check my blood sugar via finger pricking, and can alert me if my sugars are going up/down.

you are the person our math problems warned us about

I can think of a million things that are far more important than being ‘thin’ and the most important one being your health and happiness.

The secret to accomplishing what matters most to you is committing your goals to writing. This is important for at least five reasons.

  1. Because it will force you to clarify what you want.Imagine setting out on a trip with no particular destination in mind. How do you pack? What roads do you take? How do you know when you have arrived? Instead, you start by pickinga destination. The same is true with the milestones in your life. Writing down your goals forces you to select something specific and decide what you want.
  2. Because it will motivate you to take action.Writing your goals down is only the beginning. Articulating your intention is important, but it is not enough. (This is where I disagree with Rhonda Byrne, author ofThe Secret). You must execute on your goals. You have to take action. I have found that writing down my goals and reviewing them regularly provokes me to take the next most important action.
  3. Because it will provide a filter for other opportunities. The more successful you become, the more you will be deluged with opportunities. In fact, these new opportunities can quickly become distractions that pull you off course. The only antidote I know of is to maintain a list of written goals by which to evaluate these new opportunities.
  4. Because it will help you overcome resistance.Every meaningful intention, dream, or goal encounters resistance. From the moment you set a goal, you will begin to feel it. But if you focus on the resistance, it will only get stronger. The way to overcome it is to focus on the goal—the thing I want. Steven Pressfield’s book,Do the Work, is must-reading on this topic.
  5. Because it will enable you to see—and celebrate—your progress.Life is hard. It is particularly difficult when you aren’t seeing progress. You feel like you are working yourself to death, going nowhere. But written goals are like mile-markers on a highway. They enable you to see how far you have come and how far you need to go. They also provide an opportunity for celebration when you attain them.

If you’ve been unable to stick to the goals you set just 30 days ago (like me), you get a second chance today because it’s Chinese new year! Set those new year’s resolutions again but this time, write them down. I, for one, will be whipping out my journal and putting it to good use. It would be a shame if I designed the whole thing but didn’t get to use it!

Kung Hei Fat Choi and happy goal-writing! :D

Why don't you 'condone quick fix diets'?

runningoffyourproblems:

Imagine I hand you a leash and say, “Take care of this animal for me.”

I walk away and you have no idea when I’m coming back.

What’s the first thing you do?

Research.

What kind of animal is this? Where does it live? How much water does it need? Climate? Do I need to walk it? Does it fly? Is it ill?

What does it eat?

Imagine you don’t do research. Imagine you feed it a steady supply of Doritos, grass, and Mountain Dew.

And it grows ill.

Why? Because it wasn’t cared for properly. You accidentally deprived it of calories. You accidentally deprived it of sunlight, vitamins, minerals.

Did you mean to hurt it?

Absolutely not.

But here it is, lethargic, faint, and pale.

I feel like humans are the very same way. We are animals that require research. You want to optimize the way your body functions? Learn about it. Take classes, read books, watch documentaries. Quick fix diets without professional advice or supervision leave no room for research. Often they make flashy claims or deprive you of substances your body needs to survive and flourish.

Your ‘quick fix diet’ takes as long as it should take to research and ready yourself for a lifestyle change.

The sooner we accept that, the sooner you can get started.

I am so sick of hearing people say “skinny girls are filth, only a dog wants a bone” or “no one wants to see a whale walking down the cat walk.”

Okay. Stop.

Just because someone is thin, it does NOT mean they are thin by choice. Take me for example. Anyone who knows me in person will tell you I eat like a pig/horse/cow/dog. I do not stop eating, but I CANNOT gain weight, so I would really appreciate it if the people of Tumblr would stop saying skinny girls are not pretty. Stop saying I’m ugly because I don’t have curves. Putting me & others down for the sake of your self-esteem is petty & pathetic.

I would also appreciate it if the people of Tumblr would stop saying “fat” girls can’t be models. They have every right to strut around in a bra & underwear as the rest of us. & putting them down for the sake of your self-esteem, once again, makes you look petty & pathetic.

As long as you are comfortable in your body, does it really matter if you’re big or small? There is no such body type that a woman “should have.” A woman should have curves if she can’t help it or if that’s how she wants her body. A woman should have bones if she can’t help it or if that’s how she wants her body. Girls who are literally anorexic or obese (not just thin or curvy), then they need our help & support. They do not need you telling them what they should or shouldn’t look like.

We all need support, & we all need to love the body we’re in. So how about instead of discriminating, you love all the body shapes, instead of just one? Because judging someone’s body does not define who they are, it defines who you are.
